The City of Richmond is located 40 miles east of Kansas City at the crossroads of Missouri Highways 10 and 13. Home to many historically significant sites, as well as the county seat for Ray County, Richmond has much to offer.
As street improvements to the historic square are occurring, new businesses are opening their doors. When improvements are complete, the historic district will provide a pleasant shopping, dining and entertainment district. Historic buildings such as the Farris Theatre, built in 1901, commercial buildings and churches reflect the best of rural living. The centerpiece of the square is the county courthouse, built in 1915, set on beautifully landscaped grounds.
New growth continues in area of the downtown, in the Richmond Business Community Industrial Park, and along Highways 10 and 13. City services include the Richmond Fire Department with the latest in fire protection procedure and technology and the Police Department operates the city’s 911 system to protect its citizens. The Ray County Memorial Hospital offers a variety of special services, manages a Home Health Care Agency and a Hospice Agency.
The Richmond R-XVI School District is proud to be a winner of the “Distinction in Performance Award” from the State of Missouri. The school district’s facilities include a high school, middle school and two elementary schools, serving about 1,770 students from Camden, Henrietta, Knoxville, Millville, Rayville and Richmond.
Richmond has well-landscaped parks including an 18-hole golf course that attracts visitors from across the state and is considered by many to be one of the top five courses in Missouri. The City’s Recreation Department operates the Richmond Public Swimming Pool, along with several recreational programs throughout the year.
